On May 24th, 2015 at approximately 1:00am, the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a male subject carrying a gun and walking up and down Legion Street in Convent, LA. Two deputies were already in the area of Legion Street due to a previous call of subjects armed with guns near Winnie Road in Convent. Deputies had investigated the first call and found no subjects in the area around Winnie Road. Upon arriving at the second call on Legion Street, deputies came into contact with four male subjects. The deputies exited their patrol units and upon approaching them, one of the subjects opened fire with a handgun. One of the deputies took cover behind their patrol unit while the other took cover behind a nearby tree. Both deputies returned fire at the suspect who was shooting at them. The suspect was struck once by the deputies’ gunfire. While the deputies were approaching the shot suspect, a second suspect began firing at them from a different location. After shooting at the deputies, the second shooter fled the scene on foot. Acadian Ambulance was dispatched to the scene to render medical attention to the suspect who was shot, and has been identified as Ron Christopher Youngblood (DOB 08/14/1969, 455 Fountainbleau Drive, Baton Rouge, LA). He was transported to an undisclosed hospital where he is listed in guarded condition. All four subjects, including the suspected second shooter, have been taken into custody. The Louisiana State Police is conducting the investigation regarding this incident, and charges will be forthcoming as the investigation progresses. Both deputies received no injuries.
