On Tuesday, May 27th, 2014 at approximately 5:04 am, the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a person who had been shot at 2157 Church Street in Vacherie, LA.  Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that the victim, Ansley Jackson (31 years old), had been shot once in his right leg.  Due to the large amount of blood the victim had lost, Acadian Air Med was dispatched to transport Mr. Jackson by helicopter to LSU Interim Public Hospital in New Orleans, LA.

 

Detectives investigating the shooting were able to determine that the victim had been involved in a confrontation with an individual by the name of Lavell Gant (DOB 11/28/1977).  After concluding the investigation at the crime scene, detectives went to the residence of Lavell Gant located at 1218 Old Vacherie Street, Vacherie, LA.  Once there, detectives discovered evidence directly linking Lavell Gant to the shooting incident they were investigating.  Lavell Gant was arrested and charged with LA R.S. 14:27.30.1 Attempted 2nd Degree Murder; LA R.S. 14:69.1 Possession of a Stolen Firearm; L.A. R.S. 14:103 Disturbing the Peace; LA R.S. 14:95.1 Carrying of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon; and LA R.S. 14:37 Aggravated Assault.  Lavell Gant is currently incarcerated at the St. James Parish Jail.  Bond in the amount of $205,800.00 was set by the Honorable Judge Jessie Leblanc.  Ansley Jackson is currently listed in stable condition at LSU Interim Public Hospital.
